God in your pocket?!

Monster of the Week: Pokémon

It’s time for my favourite monster of the week! For this post, mine involves a worldwide series known for capturing monsters and storing them inside your pocket. And that is the famous children series Pokémon!

If you don’t know what a Pokémon is? Don’t you worry I’ll break it down…

Origin:

“Pokémon” translates to “Pocket Monsters” in Japanese. In the world of Pokémon, they’re over 1000 monsters in counting. With nine fascinating regions, you can capture a monster and store them inside of a ball. Hence why it is called Pocket Monsters (You store them inside your pocket). Once captured, they have become your pet in which you can participate in the competitive scene by training them in battles, or just catching them all. Pokémon was originally a trading card game, then it has evolved into a video game which is now a famous Intellectual Property. What makes Pokémon interesting is that you can build a team which falls in the rock paper and scissors mechanics (I.e Rock beats Scissors, Paper beats Rock, Scissors beats Paper, viceversa). They’re currently 18 types of Pokémon vairing its special traits, making it unique and diverse so that you can make your ideal team with countering measures. And they are:

Normal, Bug, Dark, Dragon, Electric, Fairy, Fighting, Fire, Flying, Ghost, Grass, Ground, Ice, Poison, Psychic, Rock, Steel, and Water

My Chosen Monster: Pokémon #0493 Arceus (God of all)

“It is described in mythology as the Pokémon that shaped the universe with its 1,000 arms.”

Pokédex: Ar-ce-us

Type: Multitype (See Forms)

Age: The first Pokémon born before the universe even existed.

Height: 10’06 / 3.2 m

Weight: 705.5 lbs / 320 kg

Description:

Arceus appears to be a white four legged Pokémon that has a golden ring around its belly. The ring is shaped like an angelic X shaped cross that has four green gems on it. What makes this Pokémon unique is that it identifies in the Legendary category, where it is labeled as not an ordinary Pokémon, but having monstrous stats that can overpower regular ones. Its special trait is that it is the only Pokémon that has a tequila called “Multiform” Where it can change its type while also changing its appearance (See in Forms).

Forms:

Lore:

This Pokémon is in the Sinnoh region (Generation IV), where it is said that region is the oldest out of all of them. The Sinnoh region holds ten cities, five towns, and three islands, with an ancient ruin that has the oldest text in history. This ruin is called the “Hall of Origin '' where it is located in the mountains and it’s the highest peak of the region. From there it is the home of the three guardians, where they protect, store, and balance the world under their father (Arceus). Those three guardians are: Giratina God of Hell (Grey, left), Palkia God of Space (Purple, middle), and Dialga God of Time (Blue, right). All those powers together are their father Arceus God of All.

In the Video Game (Diamond/Pearl/Platinum):

You play as a ten year old who travels around the region to collect seven badges and face the region's champion. What makes it fun is that there is a group called Team Galactic, and they follow their boss Cyrus, who calls forth the guardians to help with his ideals, restarting the world. You must stop him before it gets too late! In order to summon Arceus you must play an accent tone by a flue to call them. After that, you will face the three guardians in order to meet them.

Why this Pokémon?

The reason why I have chosen this Pokémon in particular is because not only it is the God of all Pokémon, but literally God itself! There is no way that you can defeat God themself then just capturing it inside a ball?! I just find it absurd that you can tame God, they will be your “pet” Truly an extraordinary world for Pokémon :)

Fun Fact!

Pokémon has an altered appearance in the video game, if you see another duplicate of that same Pokémon but in a different colour, it is called a “Shiny” They have a summon rate of 3% which like a extremely rare appearance to have!

And that's all folks!

Thank you for reading my Monster of the Week post! Be sure to check out my previous blog here. Have a great day!

Stay Cultured :)

Beginners guide to Anime! Five recommendations to get you started!

Animation is one of the most beautiful forms of art. It involves movement frames that can bring a drawing to life. We on the western side call this a cartoon. Japanese cartoons or what they call “Anime” are a good way to introduce an art piece that has inspired globally. You maybe thinking that cartoons are for kids, but Anime is much more than that. Anime has a rich story and beautiful art that visually tells the narrative to another level. Not only it has inspired the animation industry but has reached a global phenomenon that enlightens people to be better.

Still don’t believe me, here are five Anime’s that can change your mind:

1. My Hero Academia - Boku no Hīrō Akademia

To start off with the list is a good all-rounder. What I mean by “all-rounder” is that it fits for anyone, whether that be an age group or a broad scope, this pick is a good entry for Anime. If you like quirky characters, high school, and superheroes–this Anime is for you!

This story is about a world where there are superheroes and villains. What's different is that having superpowers is normal. Our protagonist, Izuku Midoriya, is a 14-year-old boy who has no powers at all. But it did not stop him from chasing his dream, to be the greatest superhero in the world like his idol: All Might. He attends Hero Academy High School, where his idol is teaching; but he soon finds out a secret to his idol's greatness. Will he prevail and become a true hero?

Author FYI:

  • Mainstream (New season in the making)

  • Six Seasons with a total of 138 episodes!

Disadvantages:

  • Fanbase

  • Things can get annoying

2. Attack on Titan - Shingeki no Kyojin

Not liking the first? That's fine, here is something I got for mature audiences. If you like the 1900’s aesthetic, gore, and twists–then look forward to this!

This story is about a dreadful world where there are man-eating giants known as Titans. In order for humanity to survive they have built walls to keep them at bay. Our protagonist, Eren Jaeger, a 15-year-old boy who has joined the army for vengeance after the loss of his home. Together with his remaining family, fights the Titans and reclaims his home. Only to find out that the world is not what it seems…

Author FYI:

  • Mainstream (Last episode is airing later this year!)

  • Four Seasons with a total of 88 episodes!

Disadvantages:

  • Violence and Gore

  • Too many lore, take notes!

3. Your Lie in April - Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso

Okay, maybe too mature to your liking. So, this is more down to earth with the life of a Japanese high school student. If you like romance, a slice of life, and music–then get ready for the tears!

This story is about a 14-year-old boy named Kōsei Arima. He is a pianist prodigy, winning many awards until the recent passing of his mother due to illness. Because of this, he had lost all of his motivation to touch a piano again. Until he met his classmate named Kaori Miyazono, she is a free-spirited violinist with a deep passion for music. They both embark and praise their respective musical instruments, which lights a spark for Kōsei to start again. As the school year goes on Kōsei slowly gains feelings for Kaori and plans to confess to her. Will their music connect further? Or is this a orchestrated finale?

Author FYI

  • Anime is finished!

  • One Season and 22 episodes!

Disadvantages:

  • Old entry (Not well known)

  • Prepare to cry

4. Death Note - (As is)

Not into romance? Okay, Scrap the romance and let's be the antagonist in the story. If you like cat & mouse games, suspense, and supernatural, then get your pen ready.

This story is about a 17-year-old student named Light Yagami. One day he finds a book that allows him to dispose of anyone with the power of writing their name. Upon this divine revelation, he uses this advantage to cleanse all evildoers–with the world's greatest detective on his trail. What’s wrong is that Light’s twisted ideals made a cult that praises him as a God. Will he prevail? Or suffer the consequences?

Author FYI:

  • Anime is finished!

  • Two Seasons with 37 episodes!

Disadvantages:

  • Old entry (but well known)

  • Dark and Grim

5. One Piece - (As is)

Finally, this one is the creator’s choice :) It’s a slow burn, but I promise you it will pay off. If you like adventure, friendship, and pirates, then set sail for a long voyage.

This story is about a 19-year-old man named Monkey D. Luffy. His dream is to find the legendary treasure the One Piece and become: King of the Pirates. In order to do that, he needs a trustable crew who also have dreams, to pursue and navigate the seas. With many mysteries and hardships, they battle through obstacles that challenge their dream. What journeys will Luffy encounter? Will he achieve this legendary treasure?

Authors FYI:

  • Mainstream (Ongoing!)

  • 20 Seasons and 1078+ episodes!

Disadvantages:

  • Very long but there are summarized seasons into a movie (Skips tear jerking scenes)

  • Recently made Live-action to summarize season one (abridges it though)

That's it!

Hopefully, I’ve convinced you with these five shows and feel free to disagree. If not, and wish to praise me then no need to thank me. I have blessed you with the honour of something that can be a hobby <3

Stay Cultured :)
